What is Microfin?
Microfin is a holistic enterprise planning tool, designed to help budgeting managers, CFOs, and operations officers plan debt financing, branch expansion, staff hiring, cash management, and asset purchasing. Microfin includes a complete set of monthly financial statements, ratio reports, cash surplus or deficit reports, portfolio growth graphs, and monthly budget-to-actual variance analysis.

- Microfin seminars link strategic planning to operational forecasts for program growth, revenue, expenses, and financing using an interactive case study approach which give delegates confidence to implement Microfin.
- Howard's 30+ years of microfinance consulting with 25+ years of teaching Microfin to hundreds of individuals combined with 10 years of Microfin maintenance and enhancement gives delegates an insider's opportunity to learn Microfin and influence future development.
- Delegates can choose a 3-day Standard or a 5-day Standard and Advanced seminar.
- Lunch is provided along with a mid-morning coffee/tea/snack break
- Materials include a thumb drive with the latest version of Microfin and additional tools designed to compliment the Microfin instruction. A printed booklet with all presentation slides and the case study is included.
How will I learn?
- The best learning comes from seeing, reading, and doing.
- Seeing - Delegates will watch Howard explain Microfin section by section on a large TV or with his data projector.
- Reading - Delegates will read the provided case study influenced by Howard's microfinance consulting experiences. The case study goes step-by-step, providing a written guideline for future Microfin input and practice.
- Doing - Delegates who bring a PC based laptop will then enter the case study elements and ask questions regarding how Microfin is adapted to real-life situations. Delegates will be able to verify understanding with case study check figures. Howard takes time to explain any inputs which were not clear and created deviations from the check figures.
- After seminar support - Delegates are encouraged to arrange for a 1-hour Zoom consultation as they complete their own Microfin models for additional guidance and advice as needed.

Most delegates enjoy the week-long Standard and Advanced Seminar, however it is divided into two two sections, respecting delegates' time and desired level of training. The Standard Seminar starts Monday September 14, 2026 and goes through Wednesday September 16, 2026. The Standard plus Advanced Seminar continues through September 18, 2026.
The Seminar location is the Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Seattle/Northgate, Address: 9550 1st Ave NE; Seattle, WA 98115; located 0.3 miles (~0.5 km) from the Northgate Light Rail station, which provides access to major tourist locations and the SEA airport. Arrival a day or two before the Seminar or departing a day or two afterwards is encouraged to explore the area and for tourism and shopping. See representative photos below:
Pricing for the Seminar depends on when you register and pay for your attendance. Discounts are given for those who register early and bring multiple delegates from their organization. Scholarships for travel and lodging are not available.
